MY SHAMEFUL – Interview with Sami Rautio

Hello my friend! I am Andrew. Congratulations for your first full length album. I would like you to tell me some words about My Shameful in brief in order to be easy for the readers that don't know you to read this interview.

The band was started in 1999 with just me and Harri. We made three demos during the year 2000, of which the latest was released as a MCD by the Italian Nocturnal Music. Then on, we signed a contract with Firebox Records last year. And here we are.

Your label names your music as “Funeral Doom Metal”. Do you agree with this term? It is certainly doom metal but I do not know about funeral. There are heavy guitars in low tempo. What do you think?

There are definitely some funeral doom moments in there, but it´s not strictly funeral.

Your music emits negative feelings to my ears. If I had to use only one word for your music that would be grief or doom. Had you planned the music to be this way or is it just something that came from your heart?

It just comes out like that, can´t help it… If I´d be a more positive person, I wouldn´t be doing doom at all.

The production is very good and especially for the style you are into. Are you satisfied with it and if you had the chance to change something now would you do that and what would that be?

I would have better guitar sounds for sure! That´s problem with home recording, can´t really put up a stack and crank it up you know…

The lyrics are in the same direction with the music. Hopeless! There are many of them that are really good like “ take me down from here, show me how you can hurt me, take me down from here, let me feel it all once again and again” from “Blackened Lies” which is one of my favorite songs of the album. How did you manage to write that kind of lyrics? Do you influence from daily things and situations or it just comes from deep within yourself?

Don´t know really… guess the lyrics sum up my whole life experience in a way. Like a good doomster, I yearn for heartbreak… hehe.

You are a duo. What are the advantages and disadvantages of such a small line-up? If you had the chance to work with another good musician would you do that or you are satisfied as a duo?

At least things get done OUR way. But the reason for it is really the lack of suitable musicians. And now, I even live in a different country…

I think that some clean vocals would deal with your music. Have you ever think about it?

Why not? If I could learn to sing… I tried that, didn´t really work.

Name me some of the bands you like and some of the bands you have influenced from…

My Dying Bride (obviously), Anathema, Shape of Despair, Emperor, Death, Unholy

Do you watch the underground scene of your country? If you do , please tell me some bands that can become bigger in the future.

Not so much… I´m looking forward to Deathbounds debut album, gonna be some heavy trash/death stuff, also, Somberaeon is a band to look out for.

What are the reviews you have received up till now?

Mostly positive! Of course, with this kind of music, people have so diverse experience… to some it´s the ultimate of extreme doom, to some it might be lame shite.

Why should someone prefer to buy your cd than any other release?

Why not? Well, depends of the other CD… No really, if you wanna experience something that can crush your soul, buy the freaking CD.

How do you plan to promote your album? Have you arranged any live performances?

More interviews. Due to lack of musicians, no live shows.

I will use a Kreator's song…Servant in heaven or king in hell?

Heh, guess the King in Hell would suit me better… I prefer the idea of hell anyway…

So, that's all from me. Kiitos paljon (I think it is somehow like this right?) for your time and I wish you the best for the future. Close as you like…

That was totally correct! Get the the album, listen to it, and feel the weigth!
