Sometimes you get lucky and come across a band that has been around forever and automatically put a smile on your face. That smile either comes from the fact that they have stayed true to music or they just plain kick your ass. That is the case when I heard “CALLENISH CIRCLE”. After being together for 10 years, their latest release shows that they love their music aggressive, inventive, and most of all heavy. Their fast-paced aggression is really impressive.
The vocals at times sound like Mille of Kreator, but then they throw in the guttural Death Metal growls that totally change your thought of them being copy-cats. The guitar work is absolutely outstanding, full of riffs and their share of melodies. Intricate solo's show that these guy's are not fucking around. They also have some catchy hooks that tend to stick in your mind even after the Cd has ended. Of course all of this could not be accomplished without a tight rhythm section. The drum work is amazing. If you're looking for blast-beats, I hate to disappoint you, but your not going to find them here. What you will find is solid thrash sounding beats and rolls and plenty of double bass that should satisfy all who like their music heavy. They also do an awesome cover of PESTILENCE “Out of Body”.
Why it took “CALLENISH CIRCLE” so many years to be noticed by a major Metal label is beyond me. Metal Blade got a steal when they signed them. Any band that stays true to their music style should never be ignored. If you have never heard of them, don't ignore them. Mark my word you'll be smiling from beginning to end.
