DARK DISCIPLE „Unholy Hate Gore”

This band couldn't have timed the release of this hate filled CD at a better time then the month that the world is to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ. I do think that most Christians would find this Cd offensive and that is just what the band was striving for. This is a five piece death metal band from Baltimore MD that only have one thing on there mind and that is the total down fall of all Christians and of the church itself. Having seen this band last year on a small tour they where doing with a few other metal bands I was looking forward to hearing this disc. It is strange that the band was kicked off of the tour for being to heave but they where by far the best band on the tour. They have shared the stage with some major heavy weights in the death metal world such as DIECIDE, VADER, MORBID ANGEL, NILE, & MORTICIAN and held there own doing it with no problems. The band has been around since 99 and has gone thru a couple changes in the band since I had the chance to see them but it has not slowed them down at all in fact it has made them a much tighter unit I do believe.

The disc starts out with the bands twisted version of the JESUS loves me song then proceeds to explode right in your face. I think the third track really hits the nail on the head with the troubles the Catholic Church has been having as of late. The over all sound on this disc is brutal as well as sick and twisted. The Vocal performance that Mat gives on this CD is of a guttural growl that of a SIX FEET UNDER to almost a sharp stinging sounds that of CRADLE OF FILTH. There are a couple of times on the disc that his voice sounds like it is being forced but that does not happen to often and I would have to say he has done a great job replacing the last singer and has nothing to worry about with his future in this ganra of metal. Now on to the most impressive area of the disc and that is the fantastic writing of the new music.

These guys have been able to expand on an already brutal sound they already had and have been able to stretch it out with some great hooks and some fantastic riffs. The guitar style here brings to mind a couple great bands and they are NILE and TESTAMENT. As in TESTAMENT mainly in the area of the CD's DEMONIC & THE GATHERING. When I am not hearing these I am hearing bands such as DEICIDE & SIX FEET UNDER or CANIBAL CORPSE. G does an awesome job of backing up the guitar sound and giving it a solid base at which to stand and deliver its awesome sound. The drum work that Maddog lays down on these songs is nothing short of incredible. The speed and furry in which he plays is amazing and has to be heard to be believed. In fact I do believe that he is the fastest drummer that I have heard in quite some time and can only be compared to the drum machine that is used by the guys in MORTICIAN.

Over all this Disc will take you on a ride that only a true death metal fan will enjoy and gain pleasure from. The track list is a roller coaster ride of hate, fear, darkness, and evil that will leave you with the feeling of wanting more but not sure if you would be able to take more. By far the standout track on this CD is the title track. The best way to describe the track is just think of a bulldozer slowly chugging over your skull with no intent on stopping till your dead. This disc is pure brutality at its best. This CD is a must have for all true death metal fans and has my vote for best self produced CD of the year. this band is going places and if you grab this disc now you will be able to say you heard the new kings of death metal in there infant stage.
