What about this band? well, first of all they are from Mexico and have a well established reputation down there. To begin this review, i have to say that one of principal problems in metal bands from Mexico is the production issue. It goes from bad to average production. BUt in this case. this is not the problem because Naive was recorded in Sweden's Fredman studios with producer Fredrik Nordstrom.
This aspect was a good idea, with the little complaint that it has a kind of “swedish” sound on their music. However, this album it's really interesting, mixing elements of Doom, death and a lot of progressive and jazz parts. Sometimes reminding dark tranquillity gallery-era, but with the difference of less twin guitar heroisms and a better work in drums and, especially, in Bass.
This album it's comprised of 9 songs with an average time of 7 minutes. Two songs that deserve a little more of atention are “Parallel universe part 1” (that have a drum solo, kind of weird in a prog death band, and a cool creative end too), and “In Porous Verve”, a very good instrumental song (and the best of all, it's not boring).
DIES IRAE really deserves more atention, but i think they need to refine their sound. Dont misunderstand me, please, this guys have very good musicianship and creativity, but if they can move a little bit outside of the typical swe dish sound to a sound more of their own, this guys will be more recognized in the metal kingdom. A real good bought, especially if you are in progressive and technical death metal bands.
