LEPROSY „Devorando suenos (Devouring Dreams)”

LEPROSY „Devorando suenos (Devouring Dreams)” - okładka

“Devorando suenos” is the latest (fourth overall) and finest effort from Mexican Trash Metallers Leprosy. Being one of the best known Mexican metal bands although a relatively new entity, they've managed to achieve cult status among metalheads in our country (Mexico) and in central America.

Fronted by veteran Singer/guitarist Alberto Pimentel A.K.A. “El Trash” the band was formed in 1991. Alberto was originally a member of the biggest metal institution in Mexico: Transmetal, after recording their first two albums “Reino Maldito” (Dammed Kingdom) (1992) and “Llora Chiapas” (Cry Chiapas) (1994) Alberto went back to his old band and stayed with them until 1998 year in which he decided to resurrect Leprosy editing the album “Rey de las Bestias” (The King of the Beasts).

As for “Devorando Suenos” it shows the best guitar playing and vocals in Alberto´s career, the production is better than the last albums although still a bit rough, and the lyrics talk about the common themes in Death/Trash metal. The album lacks the brutality shown in their previous efforts but the vocals have improved and are a lot more discernible by listening.

The highlights in the album include the Title track which shows an ultra fast beating and an excellent chorus, the son “Escupes la Daga” (Spitting the Dagger) is a slower track where the guitar shines, probably the best song in the album is “No podran parar el tren” (They cannot stop the train) that features a special guest appearance by Rock Mexican legend Kenny Aviles and the girl smokes!!! She shows a wider range than any Mexican female singer I've ever heard and the lyrics are the best that Alberto has written in his career. Another good point is the album's cover, the dragons facing each other preparing to battle summarize, from my point of view, the raw energy and sound of the band.

Overall a very good release by a Mexican band in a market that shrinks everyday, It'll probably be very hard to find outside America, but if you have the chance, get it! It won't disappoint you.
