DEVOLVED „Technologies”
Devolved are at the cream of the Australian metal crop, bounded only by the buckling shores of this giant mass of barren land. Australia will have a lot of trouble keeping this particular metal band to themselves, for they have the power to take on the whole world, in a duel of metal brilliance.
DICK DELICIOUS AND THE TASTY TESTICLES „We Sold Our Souls For Wet Sloppy Holes”
Judging by the childish band name and the ugly CD cover I thought this would be some kind of Blink 182 sing-along pop-punkrock with stupid lyrics… I wasn't entirely wrong about the lyrics ; ) but the music these now-and-then masked American (or is it Canadian… their CD was printed in Canada) nuts play is in a heavier league than that.
.
DIES IRAE „Naive”
What about this band? well, first of all they are from Mexico and have a well established reputation down there. To begin this review, i have to say that one of principal problems in metal bands from Mexico is the production issue.
DIMENSION F3H „Reaping the World Winds”
“Dimension F3H” is NOT a project, but the new band of Morfeus of former Limbonic Art fame” – the bio claims proudly. Limbonic Art's split up was hanging in the air for a while already since Morfeus' experimental drive was a little too much for his colleague.
DIMMU BORGIR „Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia”
Being one of my favourite bands, expectations were high, following the release of the highly acclaimed Spiritual Black Dimensions. An ever changing line up has become a thing Dimmu Borgir's fans have gotten used to and it came as no surprise to me to see different faces previously not there.
DIO „Master of the Moon”
Well here we go again with the start of another chapter in the carrier of the great Ronnie James Dio. This disc comes hot off of the heels of probably one of the best cd”s from him in the last ten years (KILLING THE DRAGON).
DIO „Stand Up And Shout The Anthology”
Yet another Dio compilation from Rhino/Warner Brothers with the last compilation The Very Beast Of Dio (on the same label) only three years old. But as always, Dio anthologies are fairly similar.
DISGORGE „Consume the Forsaken”
Here in the UK, it is difficult enough to get hold of underground releases such as this let alone find reviews of them. There is a market for it, so why isn't there any promotion in the magazines? People are missing out on some superb exercises in brutality and sometimes I wonder whether I am the only one who listens to it.
DISGORGE „Necrholocaust”
Disgorge is a gore metal band from Mexico that have a good reputation in the underground of this subgenre. The music have the typical gore stuff that like so much to the followers of this style.
DISHARMONIC „Unholy Remains”
I think every band that comes from Volos, Greece is into brutal death metal or grindcore. Disharmonic follow this “rule” and present us a demo with 3 tracks and an intro in death and grind paths.
DISILLUSION „Three Neuron Kings”
Disillusion. For me an unknown band from Germany.
DISSECTION „Storm of the Light Bane”
What can i say about this album. Maybe the perfect mix between aggresion and melody! It is an excellent combination of death metal and black, but not the typical black death metal band of today.
DISSENTER „Apocalypse Of The Damned”
Dissenter come from Poland and they are into brutal death metal in the vein of Morbid Angel and generally American death metal bands. 45 minutes of interesting death metal with a production that could be better.
DISSOLVING OF PRODIGY „Time Ruins Also Beauty”
This is another band from the Czech republic that all I can say is if you like your riffs so thick that you couldn't pour them from a glass that was upside down then you will like this. This CD is very dark and doomy with a feel that the band are trying there hand at writing in the TYPE O NEGATIVE vain but much slower and heavier.
DISSONANT „Darken The Hour E.P.”
Mainly nu-metal for sure with some modern death metal influences. Pretty much sounding like Deftones, Nothingface and In Flames.
DOMAIN „…from Oblivion”
After a three-year suspension Domain regrouped, and recorded “From Oblivion” which was released on Apocalypse Productions in 2000. From Oblivion is a mix of many different styles of metal, which really makes it stand out in a sometimes-crowed metal scene.
DOMAIN „…from Oblivion”
First riffs of this album remind me a lot that project of Jason Newsted with Devin Townsend called IR8, it's like Celtic Frost going a little bit hardcore and using vocals that wanted to grunt but not reaching that level. The use of acoustic guitars adds a good effect and mark the difference between IR8 and Domain.
DOMAIN „Gat Etemmi”
GAT ETEMMI is actually the third recording from Domain, a Black/Thrash metal band lurking in the metal underground, calling Poland their home. Starting out under the name Pandemonium, three demo recordings were released before morphing into Domain, naming the first release PANDEMONIUM.
DOMAIN „Gat Etemmi”
Domain hails to us all the way from, the debts of Poland's metal underground. They bring with them their own style of death metal, which they have perfected over the many years that they have been together.
DOMAIN „Pandemonium”
A few months before the recording of “Pandemonium”, Peter had parted ways with the band, and along with leaving he took the name of Pandemonium along with him. Soon after the events with Peter, Paul renamed the band Domain.
DOMAIN „Pandemonium”
An album that melt death metal and doom in a Celtic Frost approach. So there are powerful riffs in a groovy slow motion that usually makes to move your head in a slow motion.
DOOMSHINE „Thy Kingdom Come”
My reviews of Doom metal albums are few and far between. It's a genre that I love listening to when the mood strikes.
DRACONIAN „Where Lovers Mourn”
Draconian is a band that is part of metal scene since 1994 but only now, nearly 10 years later, they managed to release their debut album through Napalm records. Following the tradition of this label's bands they are into doom/death metal with some gothic influences.
DRACONIS SANGUIS „Between Insanity And Brilliance”
Why someone should buy a release like this one which has a production worst than a demo and the music is also worst than the one of a good unsigned band? Draconis Sanguis come from Germany and this release could be considered as an average one if it was their demo. But by the time this is a release from a label… and the fault is also to their label, Metal Age because the production really sucks.
DRAGONFORCE „Valley OF The Damned”
Dragonforce, a London England outfit formerly known as Dragonheart (A name change came about to avoid confusion with other bands using the Dragonheart title), play up-tempo power metal at its technical best. Track 1 'Invocation Of Apocalyptic Evil' is a short 13 second intro, while 7 out of the 8 remaining songs are tremendously fast with melodic (and high at times) vocals from ZP Theart, intricate guitar interludes from Herman Li and Sam Totman, harmonic keyboards from Vadim and solid drumming from Didier.
DRAGON'S EYE „Screamin' for Metal”
Upon being given this disc and giving it the first run thru I knew that I really wanted to give it a good listen to as soon as possable and I am glad I did. I dont know much about this band so I will not be able to give names as to who is in the band or even where they are from.
DREAM EVIL „Dragonslayer”
When it comes to new bands I normally go into things with caution but this time there was nothing to fear. This band features the guitar work of of Gus G the string master of the group Firewind.
DUSKFALL, THE „Frailty”
Nice surprise! These guys from Sweden are here to offer us fresh death/thrash metal in the veins of At The Gates and Dark Tranquility. 10 songs that will satisfy every fan of this style with their melodies and passion.
DAEMUSINEM „Daemusinem Domine Empire”
Let's suppose you are the manager of a metal label. Would you ever sign a melodic black metal band who seems to have as influences Ninnghizhidda and Unlord? These guys are awful and they reminded me of the tragic releases of the bands above.
CALLAHAN „Art of…Third Act Zero Two”
To resume, this polish band have a mix between the Rotting christ sound, a bit of Gothenburg stuff and some Chuck's Death riffs with Vocals sounding like a melt of Sakis (Rotting christ) and Mille Petrozza (Kreator-extreme aggresions era-). This guys have good musicianship and technicality, but they don't reach a point where we can say it's a band offering a new stuff in the genre.
