Now, this is rather good. Anal Blast are a Polish super group (admittedly) made up of groups I have never heard of) but this doesn’t matter as this is a strong release of Brutal death metal. A lot of albums in this genre are very one dimensional, but Anal Stench throw in enough time changes and rhythm variations to keep the listener happy.
Anal Blast don’t sound Polish, they sound distinctly American: solid all round production and blast beats aplenty. At times, the songs veer off into near Swedish territory (check the mid point of track 3, the very cleverly titled “Anal Blast”) and then straight back into Cannibal Corpse riffery.
One thing that doesn’t appeal to me on this album is the sometimes stupid shouty vocal style employed. It sounds like a very bad punk band and doesn’t fit in at all with the style of the music.
This review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the two cover versions. Arguably the better of the two is the cover of Cannibal Corpse’s “Stripped Raped and Strangled”. It adds nothing new but is a faithful rendition of a classic song. The second cover version is Sepultura’s “Territory”. As I am not a great fan of the band, I can’t really comment on whether this version is any good. However, I’m sure that they have added some blast beats in where there weren’t any before!!!
Grab a copy if you are a fan of Cannibal Corpse.
