Music: Black Metal
Label: Virgin
Duration: 55:00 minutes (8 songs)
Cool songs: Repined Bastard Nation and Fuel For Hatred
Satyricon was among those bands that sort of created black metal, and now they signed for the Virgin label, trying to bring their music to the mass media. But be honest, what do they care about extreme metal? Nothing.
The band has changed it's style on Volcano, the music sounds not as chilling anymore. But I'm not very excited about the album, it's not a very good effort in my opinion, it sounds all very boring to me. Very few great solo's, cool riffs or interesting melodies, ofcourse it's bad to call bands like Dimmu Borgir and Old Man's Child, that are more melodic, standard black metal, but this one just couldn't get me moving my head.
Don't get me wrong, the disk ain't crap, Fuel For Hatred for example is really a killer, a groovy mid-speed song that reminds me of Rock 'n Roll in a way. The rest of the cd is slow, not really slow, but too slow for black metal, especially the last one, a real doom song. Overall, the band tries to create a very dark atmosphere, it can be compared to the new Morbid Angel, Gateways To Annihilation, which is a relatively slow and dark album too. Some of you may like it, but this record isn't meant for everyone, certainly not!
