Summoning is a band from Austria that combine ambient, dark wave, keyboards and synths, black metal, ethnics and epic themes. The vocals are often black metal alike. Their style it's usually slow songs with epic proportions and black metal riffs behind.Their lyrical and musical concept constantly refer to Tolkien's stories. Definitely an interesting band. It can be kind of monotonous for new listeners (and veterans too, indeed) but after some listenings, you can sense better what this band try to manifest with this album. Maybe the song that are more interesting is 'Where hope and daylight day' who doesn't have black metal vocals, but Female vocals worthy of an elf; This song have a more intense darkwave atmosphere that is truly emotional and sensitive. Another highlights are 'The rotting horse on the deadly ground' with a very singular chorus with harsh vocals and 'A distant flame before the sun' with that cellos so funest, the searing guitars on it and a relaxing end. Summoning' stronghold fits so well to metal maniacs and tolkien world fans.
