UNSCARED „Hell is Now”

Unscared present a 22 minute and 10 second demo-recording of typical underground death/thrash metal. Basically, a simplistic mastering process hampers their music. If that’s not the case it sure sounds that way. The drumming is technical, but the production makes them appear soft, vocalist Zottel sounds like Mille (Kreator) with a cold while the guitarists play some solid thrash riffs, but once again the overall headbanging experience is distracted by the slightly muddy production. There is a good effort, but with average quality.

My favorite headbangers include ‘Violent World’, ‘Brainshake’, ‘Blood Sacrifice’, ‘Hell Is Now’ and ‘Dying In The Discotheque’. While I don’t really care for the Cannibal Corpse inspired comedy/gore lyrics on ‘Zombie Beer’ or ‘The Dinner Is Served’. You can listen to this demo and hear many good ideas included throughout, and I give Unscared props for keeping thrash alive! But there are a few underground thrash outfits who I feel to be more deserving of your attention including Witchburner (http://www.witchburner.de) and From Beyond who are on Painkiller Records (http://www.painkiller- records.com). Note: last time I tried visiting the Painkiller Records site, the server appeared to be down and I’m unsure of the status pertaining to the label.

One or two releases down the line, with better production, Unscared will be worthwhile. In the meantime I’ll be listening to the live/concert Kreator release LIVE KREATION.
