I received this album some weeks ago, from a friend of mine that is involved in the progressive-power metal world. I don't consider myself a big follower of this style (I prefer Progressive rock bands), considering that many 'magna carta' (and similar labels) bands try to emulate Dream theater and classical progressive bands without a single trace of originality. But this australian band makes me remember that not all is a waste of time. Vanishing point have touches of many styles in their sound, so wide to list indeed, but to give you an idea, sounds like Nightingale + Dream Theater's less technical songs + Shadow Gallery + grunge, all in a progressive metal context but not as pompous as other bands. This men concentrate more in the feeling and sensitivity of the music than in be the most asyncompated and technical band of this world. Another interesting thing are vocals, who is performed in a low tune (like Dan Swano in Nightingale). A very good release, Vanishing Point it's already in the list of progressive metal bands that deserves a listen.
