Burzum is a unique band. Musically they differ from every other black metal band and most of you know what happened in Norway back in 1991 and made their name known. Due to that fact there are 2 sides nowadays. There are people who support Burzum and believe that what Vikernes (Count Grishnakh) did was right and there is a bigger amount of people who dislike Burzum and support Mayhem more. My opinion is that if we try to make clear which one was right and which one was wrong then we in front of the danger of a great loss. What is that loss? Mayhem or Burzum, as they are both great bands and MUSICALLY they deserve our respect.
Filosofem is a very weird album. It has only 6 songs and 2 of these are instrumental following the ambient path that Burzum started to explore with Tomhet in their previous album Hvis Lyset Tar Oss. The other four songs differ from what the band used to release in the past. They are long time tracks with only one or two riffs. And this is the basic idea of this album: Monotony. One repeated riff during the whole song with a very dirty production that will make you think your cd player has a problem! And even if this sounds bad the final result is very different. In the first listenings you will get bored and you will dislike this weird material but in the end you will find out that this continuous monotony has a point. You will go to bath and you will sing the first track. You will go to work and you will sing the second one. I really cant understand how this guy made an album like this! Of course there is the possibility not to like this album but dont say that immediately. Let this music grow inside you and you may change your mind. I say that because that happened to me. I didnt like this album and I considered it to be one of the worst I ve ever heard but later I realized that things were different. Listen to this album and if you have the time share your opinions by writing a review of yours here. I would like to know what others think of this album.
