Here it is: The latest Gothic Knights CD is rotating in my player. Immediately in the beginning a Bon Jovi riff, hm…, waiting for the rest. It reminds me a bit of Keep the faith. Then it´s a bit more speedy and reminds of Pegazus. But with Power and the glory Gothic Knights from Brooklyn/New York have sent a fast opener where you can bang your head excellently. And like that it shall continue with a kind of a Hammerfall riff… All songs in that great album are absolute individuals: sometimes heavy (Vampyre), sometimes pressing (Sleepy Hollow), thrashy with some speed changes (The witching hour) and even typical power metal (Heaven´s fire).
There are some songs I have to recommend to listen to: A song with a haunting melody, the title track at the same time: Up from the ashes, the supposed live killer Guardian archangel and The 13th warrior (guys, if you don´t play these two songs live, you are to blame!). To have a short break there is a wonderful ballad called Dear queen. Singer Rick shows a greet feeling for this song without having written it. Heartbreaking…
I have to say in any case that Rick uses many different facets: Partly he sounds like Ripper Owens, sometimes like Michael Kiske or even like Rob Rock.
You can find 2 bonus tracks on Up from the ashes. First Gothic Knights tried to cover Duran Duran´s Hungry like the wolf with success. Second: The machine. But I can´t understand at all, why this is just a bonus track…
Furthermore we will be made happy with a thick booklet with liner notes, a sticker and a poster.
Ok, singer Rick could have more power at some time, but the variability of his voice compares that!
Totally seen: Super album! A real metalhead should lend an ear in any case!
