The wait is over. Wotan finally released their debut album Carmina Barbarica. This may be the first time you meet Wotan but i am sure it is not the last. Coming from the underground scene of Italy and with two amazing demo releases in the past they had made us wait for their first official release for much too long.
As you might have already guessed from the title of the album Wotan are into pure epic metal. And fortunately they dont play epic metal in its modern way with many keyboards and symphonic parts. Their music is simple with a very steady rhythm section and a glorious epic tone in more than obvious. To get to the point just think of Manowar in Into Glory Ride album. Besides, Manowar seems to be Wotans major influence. You have just to pay attention to the way their singer sings and you will meet Manowar there! But be careful, we do not have a band that copies Manowar in no case! Wotan are original in what they do and their music is full of passion.
Carmina Barbarica contains songs from their 2 demos and some new ones. The opening track is the heavy metal dynamite and perhaps the most well known song of the band, Lord Of The Wind. Then follows Under The Sign Of Odins Raven which is a new one and i think the best one to see the potentional of the band. Ride Of Templars, Iron Shadows and King Of Crows are some more songs from their first demo (that was released back in 1993!). There is also a special appearance by Deathmaster of Doomsword in Hussard De La Mort chorus.
In brief, Carmina Barbarica is an album that will satisfy every epic metal fan and i believe we must support this band because they really deserve it. HAIL!
