Cool Songs: Beyond The Apocalypse, Singer of Strange Songs
This is the norwegians second full length after the debut Liberation which had received a great feedback a couple of years ago, especially due to the participation of Frost (Satyricon) behind the drumkit. Now they return with their new effort Beyond The Apocalypse released through Candlelight. Frost is again behind the drumkit and the quintet from Norway seems to be in a great shape. They perform raw, aggressive black metal mostly based in high tempos, with an old school feeling, but decent production and thats the reason why someone can really enjoy their music, as they do not copy the whole feeling of legends of the past (Satyricon, Darkthrone etc
) but they give their own aspect of how grim black metal should be performed nowadays.
Thrashy guitars by Tjalve and Seidemann that pay tribute especially to the mighty Satyricon, astonishing drumming by Frost, typical vocals by Ravn and quite wrought structures and orchestrations are the main components of Beyond the Apocalypse. The production in this album is quite better than its predecessors one.
It seems that the true norwegian black metal is a self-born genre and thats a real hope for all its fans. I think Ill wait for 1349s next effort to praise them, as I believe they really can do better than this. For you readers that the word Satyricon means something more than a bands name, give 1349 a chance, they deserve it.
