THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING has been born in the year 2000 by keyboardist, composer and mastermind Marcello Piccini with the help of the golden voice Annalisa Rattini. 2001 the line-up was completed by Stefano Casadei on guitars, Ivan Djurdjevic on drums and Luca Giuliani on bass guitar and the first album called The Emerald Bow of Elves was recorded. Two years later there came fresh wind with Daniele Strada who joined the band. In the year 2004 Stefano Casadei left the band and was replaced by Mattia Landi, who gave more strong energy to the new album of the Italians.
Sometimes Annalisa´s voice could have more power. Unfortunately you cannot hear much of Tarja Turunen´s
and Lana Lane´s influences.
After a wonderful keyboard intro (Prelude – A legend of the elves) the album starts with a fast song called The Emerald Bow that is lead by synthesizers and lateron it mutates to a rock song. With Journey to Galadar the whole story is going to be stopped a bit, because the mentioned song is a nice ballad. This song is best for Annalisa´s voice.
A legend of the elves, this is the album title, could have started so nice. But there was the boredom that comes along with the speed of the songs. The musicians try to create excitement, but at the same time it is destroyed by the boring melodies that doesn´t let the feeling of the The Lord of the Rings appear. But you should have that feeling. Have a look at the band name and the song titles
After an interlude (Beyond the White Sea) we have Warrior´s Lullaby for the listener. But it sounds like a half ballad from the late 80´s to me. Red Dragon paints the town red a bit. This song attracts attention because it is sung with two voices of Annalisa. And therefore the song is alive. The end is done with Epilogue – I will face the world (to find you) that just is a little conclusion than a real song.
Result: The body of the CD is felicitous: Intro, ballad, fast songs, interlude, epilogue, you can find everything. But it cannot convince that much because of the songwriting. Partly the 25 minute album has got a pretty thin (guitar) mastering.
