Psychotron is a band I was unaware of its existence. They come from Germany and not surprisingly they are into speed/thrash metal. I dont know how they used to sound in the past but this album is a very good mixture of American thrash and power/speed metal. This is a little bit unusual as most thrash metal bands from Germany have their own style which reminds of bands like Sodom, Kreator and Destruction. In the case of Psychotron this is not happening and if you search about their influences I am sure you can find Flotsam And Jetsam, Testament and Iced Earth among others. Especially Flotsam And Jetsam is a band very close to their style. The structure of songs in Open The Gate reminds me a lot of the one in Doomsday For The Deceiver and I like that as I consider this album one of the best speed/thrash metal albums ever.
There are some really great songs in this album such as Open The Gate, Private Hell and God Nihil. These guys know how to use their instruments. Heavy guitars that produce killer riffs and a very stable rhythm section. I also like the vocals of their singer that remind me once again of Flotsam And Jetsam. Dont think that my often references to this band is a negative thing for Psychotron. I think Psychotron is a very good band in that style and a very good recommendation to thrashers. But there are also some things they must pay more attention to in their following releases such as the production which is ok for a thrash band but It could be even better and the artwork of the album which seems irrelevant to my eyes according to their style. But these are things that can be improved easily. The most important part in every album is the music and in Open The Gate music is really good! Check them out!
