Why is the weather ALWAYS good, except when I am ready for a journey?? Well, let´s call it fortune
Or differently: The fitting weather of sadness for this year´s Wave Gothic Meeting in Leipzig/Eastern Germany, that recurrs for the 14th time in the year 2005.
Briefly inhesitant I arranged everything to see my current absolute favourite band also in Leipzig! Quickly I booked a hotel room, I organised a train ticket and day offs and the journey inside the crowded trains could begin! Pentecost sucks!
Already at the Leipzig main station you could see black fellows, all over the station. I felt like a leper with my obligatory Darkseed-t-shirt 😉
When men wear long, black skirts and everybody in your area is straight-faced (and they even don´t have a smile on their lips!), then it is time for the annual Wave Gothic Meeting in Saxony.
Taxi drivers in Leipzig are not very friendly, I just asserted that. And besides, the Leipzig people have got a pretty rough character, with which you have to get on with. And there should tell just SOMEbody that the Swabians are not able to speak good German! The Saxons are not able to, neither! Well! So much for that! 😉
As I arrived at the Haus Auensee around 5:45 pm, accidentially Mr. Stefan Hertrich was having a look after me and so the whole story of the access was done quickly.
I thought, my hotel is off the beaten track, due to the taxi driver. But the location called Haus Auensee is not very central located as well. So the location is pretty outlying of Leipzig and that is why this event is pretty outlying of the main Wave Gothic Meeting.
Darkwell, Darzamat and The Wounded were able to play without my appearance. I noticed Beseech. They could give me some nice headshakers.
But now the reason for that journey: DARKSEED! Due to singer Stefan there could have been more gothic noses. But you cannot complain if you see that there found a few lacquer skirts and gloomy people their ways to the isolating house next to the lake called Auensee (please compare that to the former Darkseed concerts a few weeks ago).
The first track that so far has opened every Darkseed evening within the last weeks: Disbeliever! Immediately the crowd had fun and Darkseed already harvested shouts and horns. The band was not disturbed by the 6 cameras that filmed the whole party for the upcoming Wave Gothic Meeting DVD. And they did a very professional and great show again. The, because of the time schedule, to about 40 minutes shortened set had (nearly) all killers of the current album Ultimate Darkness that Darkseed released for Massacre Records, and here they are:
Disbeliever
Ultimate Darkness
Biting Cold
The Fall
My Burden
Save Me
Forever Darkness (can be found on the 2000 album Diving Into Darkness)
Sleep, Sleep Sweetheart
What a pity that they didn´t perform Endless Night, although that would have been very gothic. But anyway it was compared by the deadly-sad piece called Sleep, sleep sweetheart. Furthermore Speak Silence was a time victim, too. Maybe at the Bretthart Open Air, guys??
A rare picture was featured by singer Stefan Hertrich, who in reality jumped a few times. This you just know from fooormer times. Also he coquetted with the fans in the front rows and egged the guys and girls on clapping their hands. Very good performance also from the rest of the band, whereas we could finally hear the sound of keyboardist Armin Dörfler. I was very happy with the very good sound and it was very loud, too. And also the numerously appeareing gothic metalheads seemed to be very pleased, because in the end of the more than wonderful concert the mostly black-haired wanted to have an encore. Unfortunately it was not possible to hear an encore, because otherwise the strict time schedule would have been a mess.
Front man Stefan Hertrich was off the mark a few times, but nobody was disturbed by that, because Darkseed played rarely this year in German halls. So you can excuse such things. Lead guitarist Tom Gilcher told me about a few technical problems and aforesaid musician had to handle those most of the time while being on stage. But the audience didn´t adminitered that.
The band from Munich today acted very evil (except drummer Maurizio Guolo, who always smiles ) that was very attractive for the well-dressed gothic ladies and the fierced lacquer misters.
Martin Motnik once more showed us his exceptionally gifted and well sophisticated bass guitar technics.
Extremely annoying were definitely the cameras and several photographers (in the much more annoying place for photographers between the stage and the fans), who were standing directly in front of the audience for the first three songs Thereby the dreary atmoshpere was slightly disturbed Fan misfortune
After the event we could see Entwine, LAB from Finland (I have never seen such a embarrassment! The female singer jumped up and down on one leg like she was obsessed or she lied completely out of herself on the stage ground), Lake of Tears (who remind me sometimes on very good, middle Metallica in times of the black album) and in the end Tiamat.
