After his popular role as singer of the band UNRULY CHILD and as a band member in MAGDALEN, PHILIP BARDOWELL had a job as singer in Peter Criss´ (KISS) band CRISS. BARDWELL´s voice is comparable to the one of Lou Gramm (FOREIGNER) and Mark Fee. After the good debut album of 2001, his second solo work „In the cut“ will be released and also should give us AOR, melodic rock respectively.
Along with own compositions, different other songwriters did their jobs, for example Stan Bush, Jim Peterik (SURVIVOR, PRIDE OF LIONS), Mark Spiro (HOUSE OF LORDS, BAD ENGLISH), Bobby Barth (AXE) and Curt Cuomo (KISS, STEVE PERRY). And you can hear that while listening to the songs …
The production was done by the Swede Tommy Denander, (RADIOACTIVE), at the same time the man for guitar, bass and keyboards, together with Serafino Perugino. The drums were done by Daniel Flores (MIND´s EYE, XSAVIOR).
A summer CD, so you could think, when you listen to the title track and opener „In the cut“. A light and easy feeling song, this is the first song! …But that will be stopped by “Through my eyes“. With „Heart of a hero“ a little more speed is shown. Therefore this song is a good rock song. The next one is a ballad called „I gotta believe“, a real, real ballad. Afterwards there´s an midspeed song for us, with the name „She will never know“. And the disc goes on and on like that… Also the rest is more normal stuff and unfortunately it doesn´t know how to get us off the chair, in the opposite: weak songs makes me think: softy rock!
Finally the album „In the cut“ sounds equal after listening to it for the more thanb 30 times. And it also sounds too much like PRIDE OF LIONS. Because of that this album cannot convince the listeners. Unfortuately the light voice of the solo artist cannot help anymore. Sorry: boring.
