Electric Stalker 2006
The Swedisch super(?)group SPEEDY GONZALES consisting of Thomas Vikström (Stormwind, Candlemass), Marcel Jacob (Talisman), Tommy Denander (Radioactive) and Daniel Flores (Mind´s Eye) was born in the year 1990 with the aim to play something heavier then they had done before. The idea was to create a mixture of KISS and JUDAS PRIEST.
After guitarist Tommy left the band just one year later, SPEEDY GONZALES was put on hold and got together again years later to re-record the demo that was kept a secret in the underground. And here is the result:
The band kept the songs the way they were written so many years ago. And because of that the lyrics may sound childish and naive. 4 new songs were written and Electric stalker was finished.
SPEEDY GONZALES what a super-bad name for a melodic metal band! Because of this silly band name, I even didn´t want to lend an ear to that record! But already with the first piece Flash of the blade the disc didn´t show me horror. No. Groovy! (Also super-groovy is Shock the nation!) That reminds me a little bit on Axxis playing their hard rock stuff in former times.
Singer Thomas Vikström shows here with how many facets his voice is equipped. But he should stay in fields where your ears do not start peeping and cause a negative creep. This guy really sounds great when he sings with his normal, clear voice in normal regions…
This album is a good melodic metal album with a few catchy songs like Free like an eagle or Dominator that is a speedy song, and also Spit in the hand that feeds you, as well as a ballad (Medals).
Trial by fire has got a totally cool guitar riffing. And Lust and desire speeds up!
Finally the four musicians succeeded to find a good crossover of their aim: KISS meets JUDAS PRIEST (first of all you can hear that on the title track Electric Stalker) in the 80s era, where singer Thomas really sounds like Rob Halford!
Anyway, I think that the guys haven´t reached their borders, but released a normal middle-class album due to their skills. From such skilled musicians (first of all from Tommy Denander) you definitely expect more than only a (half-)new recorded CD which sounds a bit bored.
note: 7/10
