Being a huge Chimaira fan, I was psyched beyond belief to see them for the eighth or so time. I had seen Children Of Bodom once and was not too impressed, but it was before the new album, which I have taken a great liking to. Also, they were on the bill with Fear Factory and Lamb Of God, who were shooting their DVD “Killadelphia”, so I didn't really pay too much attention to them. This would be a different place and time and by night's end I would be a COB fan. Chimaira is the shiiiiiaaaaatttt!! COB had sold out every venue in the east on their last tour, so we expected a packed house and that's what we got. When we walked in it was wall to wall. Gonna be a good sweat!
The first band was Through The Eyes Of The Dead. Coulda been As I Lay Dying. Coulda been Every Time I Die. Dime-a-dozen Metalcore. Not my favorite. So, me and my best friend, Donna, used the time to slowly make our way through the huge crowd, to the front…as usual. We were getting prepared for the onslaught that is Chimaira!! Hell yeah! They hit the stage with “Nothing Remains” and the roof was removed from the beginning! “Save Ourselves” and “Cleansation” got the sweat a pourin'!! The kids were flyin' around the pit. They have some hot twin dancing girls now too. Freakin' awesome!! They did an absolutely brutal set once again. By the time they finished with “Power Trip” and “Pure Hatred”, I was completely exhausted from the war on the floor and the heat and sweat were so intense that Donna had to vacate her position for some air and I stayed in front only to pass out of existence for about five seconds where the Jersey kids had to help pick my ass up off the floor! It was amazing. I was dazed and confused, but still in position to get good pics of Bodom. I snapped off some killers of Chimaira while flying around. I was freakin' out of it and Bodom hadn't even come out yet. I was dripping wet. F**k yeah!
Then, Children Of Bodom made their way out to a thunderous crowd. They pounded into “Are You Dead Yet?”, which was pretty ironic, cause I was close, but not yet. Then, “Needled 24/7”. The place was freakin' nuts!!! My son is a crowd surfing maniac and he was flying overhead. I had got just enough of a second wind and Donna had fought her way back up with a fresh camera and an evil grin and was holding my exhausted ass up!! It was incredible!! They were kickin' seriuos butt! I remember “Follow The Reaper” wiping me the hell out!! They did “Lake Bodom” and Donna went to catch a wave. I finished my film and finally made it safely to the side where I could lean on the bar and get some air. I watched from the side as they tore down the walls with “In Your Face” and “Angels Don't Kill”. The place was thunderous calling them back for more when they left and they didn't let anyone down. I think they did “Hate Crew Deathroll”, but I was completely annihilated by that time. What a show! I must have lost five pounds in sweat. I love that shiiiiaaaattt!!!! Nothing like a Jersey crowd for a good workout!! I'm a Bodom fan now, for sure and I love getting knocked out by Chimaira. I'll be sure to see them both again anytime they come around Jersey. Faaaaawwwkk!!
Be sure to check out all the awesome pics in the gallery of both bands from the show.
