Against everyone´s advice 2004
Breakdown to breakthrough 2006
Ex-BRAINSTORM shouter Marcus Jürgens and his men prepared themselves for the second attack after their debut called Against the advice from 2004. Breakdown to breakthrough is the second metallic coup that was thrown out by the guys from Stuttgart/Southern Germany.
PUMP find a good bridge between hard rock and heavy metal sometimes.
After the Swabians travelled through the countries being the support act for AXEL RUDI PELL and QUEENSRYCHE, the guys Marcus Jürgens (vocals), Axel Reissmann (guitars), Ulli Hauff (guitars), Stephan Bürk (bass guitar) and ex- SANVOISEN drummer Achim Keller went back to the rehearsal room writing songs.
Also in the year 2006, heavy metal can sound traditional without sounding old-fashioned. Generally seen, modern sounds and a fresh voice are the features of PUMP.
The album starts with a song called Revolution on my mind, which is heavy and one of the strongest songs of the album. The catchy Blood on the blade also is on a high level.
Generelly, the band wrote a lot of catchy songs. Not only the songs mentioned above belong to thist category, but also Higher (which is not that fast anymore, but good anyway).
Reaching the middle of the CD, the songs left the strong structures unfortunately, because the band plays bluesy, calmer stuff. The drive is missing and that does not fit with the good beginning of the disc. Only now with Headstrong the story becomes better again.
And, sorry, but the opening riff of Heaven high has been stolen from METALLICA
Totally seen, the monotone songwriting attracts attention. It´s a pity. That could have been better. Finally the quintet sounds better with the faster songs, for example Bulletride.
Furthermore the finishing song is a great one: Who made you a madman? that deals with the subject of the cannibal of Rotenburg which was a high discussed circumstance in the media here in Germany.
A few little advantages: partly really fresh and great guitars and a singer with a good voice.
note: 7/10
