The Secret Heroes website claims that “heavy metal just got a little bit dirtier.” A pretty bold statement considering aside from some songs about sex, Loose, High & Free isn't really that dirty at all. What they are is a well-polished hard rock band with some catchy as hell tunes. Reminding me of a few bands from the lates 70's such as Styx and Foreigner.
“Eternal Nights” gets the album rolling with a chugging guitar riff and Scorpions like vocals — an excellent way to kick of the disc. “Maybe Tomorrow” has a 70s rock feel, complete with a huge chorus. The eight plus minutes of “Steal Your Heart Away” takes the listener back to the moody and melodic heyday of heavy metal. “20th Century Survivor” has more galloping guitars while “Backdoor Hooker” is dark and moody, the “dirtiest” tune on the album.
As for the album band photos… whats up with the cut and paste band photo? Have the band members even met each other and did they record their studio parts separately? Were they unsure who was gonna be in the band by the time the CD was complete? Anyway, kinda strange.
It' is good to see, although, new up and coming bands that have rediscovered the art of guitar solos, and the Secret Heroes have the ability. The vocals may take some getting used to, but Loose, High & Free has some enjoyable moments. I suggest hard rock fans may want to check these guys out.
