Sweden’s NIDVERK keep their music interesting on their “Nattens Halsning” demo. The group’s music stays interesting through change ups, change ups in style and tempo. Neither blasting away non-stop, nor spending the majority of their time grooving with brutal breakdowns, NIDVERK walks the line between both styles. At one verse you may hear blasphemous Black Metal screeching, blurring tremolo picking—all with a touch of Legion-era MARDUK, but the short, rapid blast beats tap into a style more consistent with Floridian Death Metal like CANNIBAL CORPSE or DEICIDE.

The first track ‘Nattens Hälsning’ features an emotionally rising Black Metal riff, but also a fist pumping, head banging, mid-paced rhythm. Add a brutal, new style of Hardcore riff played to the tune of guttural vocal puking and you have a very diverse song. The next track ‘A Contribution To Death’ continues in the same varied style, sounding like a NAGLFAR/INCANTATION hybrid.

“Nattens Hälsning” is a sick mixing of musical styles with a fantastic production. The only negative aspect of this release is that it is only has two songs and lasts a measly ten minutes, which barely wets the appetite. When a full-length is released, though, Black and Death Metal heathens around the world are sure to their bestial hunger appeased!
