Mord means “murder” in Norwegian. This two piece will murder your ear drums with their vicious, unreleting Black Metal assault. Mord does not re-invent the wheel with their sound, instead they embrace the sound that has won the world over: pure Norwegian Black Metal!
Comprised of eight songs simply titled “Opus I-Opus VII”, “Christendom Perished” is a collage of the best elements of Norwegian Black Metal. ENSLAVED is the most obvious influence, especially on Nodra's vocals. His sickening shrieks have a similar Pitch to Kjellson, and there are many places through out the recording where the music has a triumphant, pounding battle rhythm like ENSLAVED. Nowhere is this influence more apparent than near the end of “Opus II,” which recalls the doomed ending to ENSLAVED's “Loki.”
“Christendom Perished” is an album with giant balls! There are no acoustic passages, paying homage to the gods of nature. There are no Pan-like flutes or enchanting key boards. It is just two Black Metal heathens pounding away on their instruments. What makes this truly special, though, is how this group can play at such dangerous speeds but still create rhythms that stick in your head. As long as Norway continues to produce bands of this magnitude, true Black Metal will continue to prosper and grow. Christians Beware!
