Second effort of these pioneers of progressive death metal, this album marks a clear evolution of the band obtaining a more unique sound. Away almost completely from the classical thrash riffs and rhythms, this album shows more complex arrangements and mastership of all musicians involved, remarking the work of the drums, with a jazzier style that was a surprising innovation at the time (even today). Something that I admire of this album most is that despite all the complex arrangements and unusual timings, this album is heavy as fuck! with death metal riffs sounding energetic and powerful, vocals of Kelly sounds kinda strange and original, since do not use growls, but I think it fit well with the bands concept. I think the whole album is excellent; all songs have something cool to listen to, so it is hard to choose a favorite. Highly recommended to death metal prog lovers!
