First time I listened to this band was thanks to Headbangers Ball with the fabulous video of the song Penetration. I was completely satisfied with since I like industrial metal a lot; the song represents very good what the album carry on: a combination of industrial elements, metal and a dose of dark mistery. Then I was informed that this band was founded for the leader and main composer of the legendary gothic rock band Fields of the Nephilim (FotN), Carl McCoy; so I was then involved too in his old band (now reformed) and it can be said that some parts of the songs of Nefilim sounds like a metal oriented FotN (Shine could be said that is a FotN song, for example). You can find fast and heavy songs like Penetration, Xodus, Venus and Pazuzu (Black rain) with the distorted guitar sound bringing to mind the band KMFDM and slow paced, eerie and intricate songs like melt (the catching of the butterfly), Shine, Still life, Zoon and Coma. The voice of Carl McCoy is kinda original, singing in low tune. He manage his voice similar to FotN but in some parts use distorted effects or grunts. I really believe that this album was (or is?) underestimated, I think is a great album, that stands proud in my metal collection.
