NAILDOWN is an awesome band out of Finland and “Dreamcrusher” is their second full length on Spinefarm Records. It mixes progressive Heavy Metal with hard driving, pounding Death Metal. Don't be too confused with the progressive tag though. This shiiiaaat carries a ton of weight. It opens with a blood curdling scream on the title track and blasts you right from the start. The rhythms are fast and drive hard with relentless drum kicking and the vocals are a mix of clean and Death. The leads are absolutely seering. You'll be breathless after the first track, but you better buckle up cause it's only just begun. There are keyboards and lighter melodies within, but for the most part it kicks freakin' butt!! Kind of old school Swedish Death butt kicking. The leads totally rip with a somewhat Heavy Metal sound. Seeeeering!!! Everything seems to mix well together. The keys. The relentless speed of the drums. The driving rhythms. Even the clean vocals come at the right time. These guys pound man! This album has spent a considerable amount of time in my cd player and I'm hearing some good hard driving stuff coming from the Finns lately.
Finland seems to have exploded on the scene lately in Europe and is putting out some seriously good hard driving Death. Alot mixed with electronics, like Shade Empire and Scorngrain and like them, NAILDOWN has become a recent favorite of mine as is this whole new wave of hard driving Death coming from over there. “Dreamcrusher” is, without a doubt, my favorite cd of the year, so far. Take my word and get it.
