Cool Songs: Disconnect
Carpathia hail from Coventry where they formed in 2005 and began to play their own brand of Black/Thrash Metal.
The first track on the Demo, “Corporeal Nightmares”, starts off with a nice chunky riff which is coupled with a really noticeable bassline. I really like the Black Metal style vocals and they seem to give the whole sound a bit more of an edge. A bit more of a bite! Maybe its because this band are described as Black/Thrash Metal, but I am reminded of Necrodeath when I listen to them.
The piano and violin in “Disconnect” are a fantastic touch and show that Carpathia have a touch more depth than you might expect. The almost orchestral feel brings a whole new dimension to the track and to the Demo as a whole. “Disconnect” is definitely my favourite track out of the two.
It's difficult to rate a band after only listening to two tracks (even though I have listened to them repeatedly for two hours!) and I would have preferred another couple of tracks on this demo, just to give me a bit more of an idea about what this band can do. As it is, I was very impressed by this demo and would like to put my name down on a list to pre-order an album (that is, on the hope that an album will follow sometime soon! – hint hint).
