HYADES are a bit of a surprise. Hailing from Italy they are not what you would expect from a country better known for gothic metal bands with female leads and over the top, pompous power metal. HYADES are going to put Italy on the map for thrash metal. With their band slogan, “thrash now, thrash later,” they really mean business, seeing thrash music as their lives, having previously stated they would lose their day jobs in order to tour. Support slots for HELSTAR and VIRGIN STEEL have gained them some attention. With the new album, “And the Worst Is Yet to Come,” they are set for a bright future.

The album takes its lessons from thrash masters such as TESTAMENT, ACCEPT, EXODUS and SLAYER. Even the album name has a bit of a MEGADETH feel about it. The album artwork has been done by Ed Repka; the man responsible for the MEGADETH album art, among many others. So right from first sight the album gives a feeling of a classic thrash album. The music certainly doesn’t disappoint. The album shreds, pounds, thrashes and butchers its way through over 40 minutes of solid songs. The album breaks in with the song, “And the Worst Is Yet to Come” setting the album up the way it means to go on. It starts off with a slow one minute intro before breaking into a faster pace. From this point on the album does not take breaks. Tracks like “disposable planet,” exhibit suitable politically orientated themes for a good thrash band. Tracks such as, “skate addiction,” and, “wops still thrash,” show a suitable sense of humour. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to go through a time warp back to the 80s.
