Finally I got the third LP. I just could not wait to listen to it. 3-step instruction: unwrap-insert-play, was too much for me. But I finally managed. And…

And a huge dose of power. This album is a continuation – of style – started by the previous one ('Primo Victoria'). It is deeply related to the theme of Second World War. With a few exceptions, which also have conflicts in backgrounds (“Back In Control” – The Falkland War). But to the point.

Now it is vivid and clear: SABATON have their own style. They create and perform according to it. Heavy and rhythmic riffs, fantastic drums and keyboards. The craft has been mastered. The title, related to the Russian siege of Berlin, is a small symphony. Short, powerful and rhythmic. It easily falls into the ear and anchors there for a long time. Great, but… songs by SABATON are more or less… similar to each other. I do not want to say – identical – because this would be an exaggeration. Everything starts from “Attero Dominatus”, goes through “Nuclear Attack”, “In The Name Of God”, and so forth. Although “In The Name Of God” and “We Burn” sound more ambitiously – nice guitar and chorus work. And the keyboards – the weakest parts of 'Primo Victoria' have been eliminated. No more squeaky sounds, appropriate for low budget S-F motion pictures. Now the power is more tangible. M˙hr is At least In 50% responsible for the sound of this album, for its mood. In this jungle of fast and furious play, one song can be compared to an oasis of calmness. “Rise Of Evil” is a real epic construction. Massive riffs and lazy drums create the vision of troops marching on a military parade.

SABATON got used their fans to the final songs which are usually out of context. And they did not disappoint them this time either. “Metal Crüe” is the heart of the bell, metal bell, that is. Quick and rhythmic play, great cooperation of guitars and drums, cool solos and vocal parts (Brodén has finally shown the potential of his voice). Not to mention the lyrics – probably the best METAL lyrics so far. And I mean it!

It is a good album, but it could be better. Variety of war/anti-war lyrics and intros to songs is not enough, when the rest sounds very much alike. And finally the duration. I can understand that the first (sometimes even second) album lasts for around 40 minutes. But this is their third one of this length. Maybe one or two more songs would be enough.
