Black Metal has always been a musical genre in which the most triumphant group was from the Nordic world. Not to mention such superb stars as SATYRICON or IMMORTAL. They just simply smote the rest from the scene. Since 2001 they’ve been having an American competition, in fact, quite a better one.

“Religious Suffocation” is one of the most incomprehensible albums I’ve ever heard. But that does not disqualify it, because the lyrics themselves are not everything. This is a powerful dose of black metal music. Starting very heavily with characteristic machine-like-riff and very grim growl. This creates a really evil atmosphere. The compositions sound at the beginning very similar, but after a while, it is possible to notice the differences. They differ from brainless butchery to slower beginnings and fast finishes. Everything is included. And it all would have been very good, if it wasn’t for some technical slips (especially the drummer cannot keep up with the pace). As for the repetitions, every song may be different, but each one is a constant hammering in the same way, with no or just slight variety.

This album is a kind of extreme – the music is very black and the lyrical theme can give a thrill. And it has an impact on the sound. Pure evil blooms from every song. It is an ideal material for some kind of psychos. The compositions are developing throughout the album , from short ones at the beginning, to longer in the end. This gives a shade of chance, that BLOOD HAVEN will develop in the future and sound more mature.
