Cool songs: Insanity, Greed, Lethal Pest
CRITICAL MASS is a Polish Death Metal band, formed in 2004. From that time, theyve recorded two albums, all by themselves. Still, they are looking for a label. With such repertoire it is an uneasy task, especially in Poland. It must have been a miracle, that BEHEMOTH managed to sell themselves in this country and abroad.
The Insanity EP album is a typical death CD, with typical fleshy and aggressive riffs and furious drums. Everything is accompanied by a deathish vocal by Adi (he sounds fantastic, probably one of the coolest death vocals on the Polish metal ground). Most of the songs have a pretty cool character the guys simply have their own style, which they follow (and that is very important, their songs are recognisable, they are not copies of others ideas). It is not a constant butchery, there are very interesting compositions, full of style and pace changes, with heavy and melodic guitar solos. Everything is mixed nicely and the level of technicality is very high (again, fellows did everything by themselves). Insanity, Greed and Lethal Pest are the best songs in this little compilation. They definitely differ from the rest, especially Greed with its marvellous characteristic changes in pace and motifs. It is more heavy metal than death, but this only works as an advantage for it. Lethal Pest sounds similar to another Polish band ESQARIAL, but only at the beginning. The rest is very good and very original.
This little EP is very interesting. There is no place for boredom and the compositions are varied and not predictable, which very often happens in case of such genre. Lets hope, that CRITICAL MASS will finally find the label and will be able to release their material to a broader public.
