EMILIANO SICILIA was probably born with a guitar in his hands, that is why some media have been calling him the Guitar God from Italy. After listening to his début album, Devotion Materialize it becomes obvious, that this title is not an exaggeration. But lets not get ahead of the story
If EMILIANO SICILIA had appeared earlier, we wouldnt have had G3 but G4 instead. This guitar master proves that the works of SATRIANI or VAI are in his little finger. Devotion Materialize is a guitar music album, but there are not only instrumental compositions. Lets start from the intros and samples, which are out of space (especially audible in Cyber Room and Splatter on a Bluegrass, they simply create the wacky atmosphere of the whole song). The New Reality Suite is a masterpiece with that psycho hammering on the door. Marvellous. The compositions are varied, the do not concentrate only on metal and rock music, so weve got: elements of death, power and classic heavy metal, hard and soft rock, country, blues, jazz, smooth jazz, good old rocknroll, folk, and some elements of flamenco (fantastic Spanish rhythms in Splatter on a Bluegrass accompanied by death vocal, abnormal but outstanding team, which simply pulverises). Moreover, those style shifts affect the songs in the way, that one contains some of them. There is not a single song, which could be described as a pure heavy metal (for example). Another surprising fact is the sound of some songs, which are very similar to the O.S.T. to The Need For Speed 3. The computer games fans should appreciate this. I did, because I was brought up on NFS 3. Coming back there are many industrial elements, electronic adding, but this operation just makes the album more universal. It is audible, that the instrumentalist is playing with the music, while playing the music. Theres no need to mention the technicalities everything is just perfect.
This album is a powerful dose of music, any kind of music. And this is its main strength. It is not predictable, farther compositions are new, have a particular style, are calmer, more poetic or powerful. This is a cask of Martini – shaken and mixed. Mixed very well!
