GUT is a new band on American scene (formed somewhere at the beginning of this century in Boston) and they managed to release one EP, titled Shrubbery, released in 2004. Unfortunately enough, no information about the band is available at the moment. Some info you may find at Fat Togue website, but it is not worth even a penny. At myspace at least you can listen to this tune.
Shrubbery is a massive and powerful album filled with very filthy sound. The rawness of this music squeezes right into the armchair. Wear headphones and your brain will explode. And this would be a good idea, because while listening to GUT it is good to switch off the brain. The compositions are heavy and dynamic, but they lack in compactness. There is no style, everything is played after one fashion, this music has got one clear aim: create chaos. And it does. But the feeling is lost after a few seconds of that constant hammering of the same sound. When the beginnings of each song, have got something in them, the main body is empty. From the technical point of view, the album is quite good, the extremely fleshy guitars and bass create that filthy atmosphere. But that is actually everything, what this music can offer.
GUT showed with this album, that they have got some guts, small, but they are in their place. To make them bigger, they need to work upon the style, and the content, because this one is the weakest part of the album.
