Another band from Tallinn. One more and I will believe, that the whole Estonian metal industry is concentrated in their capital city. TAAK (meaning a heavy burden) was formed in 2005 as a parallel band of DAWN OF GEHENNA. The bands share their line ups and musical genre. And here the similarities end, because TAAK perform their works in Estonian, whereas DOG in English. Koerapööriöö is their firs album whatsoever.
An exotic name and the album title, but the music is very normal. Dooming metal with gothic elements. Classic riffs, lazy drums (quite powerful in faster parts), strange vocal and church-organs keyboards create an interesting mixture, which sometimes sounds like good old DEEP PURPLE and BLACK SABBATH. If this had been the aim of the guys from TAAK, they have achieved it, directly. The compositions are quite varied, the ideas repeat, but not too often, and the things go quite nice, till the end. The melodic line is audible and quite comprehensible, from the beginning the listener knows what the band wanted to convey: if it is destruction, the song is furious, poetic feelings – pathetic lines, sad – you will here some blues elements. But still, more power would do just fine. In this case, it is only average.
This blues-filling album is a nice proposition for anyone who likes such sound. Not much power allows for contemplating the music but on the other hand creates a dull and lazy atmosphere, which totally dominates the sound.
