1995… between the Carpathian summits and storms of Baltic Sea… a new idea was born. An idea fresh and very original, as for the Slavic land. HELLVETO, a true Polish artist, who combines different sounds and creates a real roundabout of music. Present on the international scene since over a decade, he managed to release two dozens of records, including ten long plays. ‘In the Glory of Heroes’ is his eighth full-length release.

This album presents a sophisticated and inconvenient sound – the dark and mysterious climate accompanied by very raw tune. After first listening to this album and not knowing HELLVETO, one might think, that this album is a debut release of an underground band. Everything thanks to the rawness and powerful noise present in this music. Sometimes sounding extremely unprofessional, but this is HELLVETO’S style. Depressing mood, cathedral choirs, grave-growl and slow mode, are everything what is needed for a perfect pagan sound, spiced up with doom elements. Although, still, I am skeptic about this music, because the heaviest parts sound pretty odd and really unprepared. Especially the first three tracks, till ‘Baltic Tale’, where the guitars sound very badly. Luckily enough, the rest of the compositions sound much better, as if they were prepared by someone else. Especially the acoustic ‘Last Moments…’, a very subtle, clearly performed and comprehensive composition, with mood and motifs changes, enriching the experience of listening and receiving music. I have to admit, that it is the best composition on this album, and unfortunately, the rest is not even a shade of it.

‘In the Glory of Heroes’ is a partially good album, especially for its compact approach, comprehensible content and message. On the other hand it is quite weak, in terms of performance and sound. Not enough as for a pagan metal veteran. But still, there is one gem, which makes the music worth listening.
