Country: France
Cool songs: Waiting
To start from the end, it is necessary to say, that BYATIS does not exist anymore. The band was formed in 1997, managed to record two albums (one demo and one long play) and somewhere in between 2002/2003 the musicians decided to split up. In Dark Abysses of Memory was originally released in 2002, by Skull Fucked Records. In 2007, French indie label, Tres-Gore Records, re-released the album with its original content.
BYATIS is another band trying to charge the metal scene with obese music – this sound is very heavy, lazy and quite dark. The frightening theme somehow bursts from it. The compositions are quite varied, the pace changes in the songs often, moreover, the motifs also do not repeat – the shifts work properly and allow to enjoy this aggressive though quite depressing sound. The riffs are fleshy, sometimes even machine-like, the drummer does his best to drag this music to a higher dimension, and the vocal is very similar to the great Chuck Schuldiner, what makes it a kind of a rare material. And with all those modifications this music is extremely close to progressive death. But the main dish is served on a brutal-technical death plate. Interesting content, interesting sound – good album.
BYATIS did a good job, as for beginning, this album is very good and they should keep the course, without any redundant changes. With such material and approach towards the performance, they would have achieved a lot. It is a pity, that they no longer exist.
