LOCH VOSTOK (the name was taken from a subterranean lake in Antarctica) was created in 2001, after the death of progressive metal MAYADOME. Teddy Möller, the founding father, had enough of childish play and wanted to create something more meaty. Destruction Time Again is the bands second full-length release, at the same time third overall.
Powerful opening smashes the brains and makes the eyeballs move backwards, as the force from the music nail to the armchair. Destruction Time Again deserves a listening because of one main reason: it is damn good piece of progressive metal, with death flavor, performed according to the style principles (furiously fast riffs, surrounded by obese drums, with hints of keyboards in the background). The shifts between styles are so precise, that there is not enough time to notice where do they occur. Pace and motifs dance lie two blades in a duel, where everything changes after each cut and counterstrike. The melodic sections are well developed, so that the listening is much more pleasurable, than in ordinary progressive productions. Finally, the vocal lines are very good, they change quite often, from heavy growls to strong and clear vocal, reaching sweet feminine tunes phantasmal experience. There is no time for breathing, this album has to be taken within one cycle of respiration.
LOCH VOSTOK recorded a fantastic and oneiric progressive death material, embellished with a huge dose of melody, which makes it very digestible. Despite of all those intense shifts in almost everything, the album is surprisingly coherent and easy to listen. Well done.
