Black Sheep Records specializes in finding hardcore bands. KILLING ROOTS, having something in common with HELLS KITCHEN is a good example of BSR sensible ear. Coming from West Seattle, KILLING ROOTS musicians play a kind of melodic blend of hardcore and thrash metal spiced up with some stoner elements. It sounds
like something youve all heard some time before. Of course, someone can say that such melodic and interesting material is in demand, that hardcore is the future of metal, that its power is vicious and that regular thrash or death metal bands are bound to disappear. I will not agree because of one main reason – most of you still remember the dinosaurs of rock and there are still bands trying to imitate their sound. Rock will never die and the same goes for classical metal genres. In case of KILLING ROOTS their music is quite powerful and does not allow to have an even five minute break during listening. It is constant head banging although it is not that kind of material which will grasp you for hundreds of hours. Jeffs fleshy growl sounds good and when it is accompanied by the death/grind beats it is even more deadly. Everything works here like in a watch, a Swiss one even, although the technical mastery is not enough. The music should have a bit more groove and style. This melt does not serve emotional breakdown or metal illness. It is just regular play of any Tom, John and Dick. Moist and juicy riffs are mainly one-motif stuff which is unable to absorb the listeners attention. The concentration span is quite short and after a few sounds you start looking around your room in order to find something creative to do.
In other words, stop wasting your time on listening to bands which sound exactly the same. The only thing you will find different about them are their names and maybe sometimes the line ups (but not always). Hardcore scene is filled up with bands who would like to conquer the world with the only true sound. But in this case there is no such thing. It is just a Xerox syndrome – once played, twice copied over and over again.
One extra point for the power!
