21 LUCIFERS was formed in 2002 and managed to release two demos and one abovementioned album. The band signed a contract with a record company from Singapore and, judging from their opinion on the website, they are not satisfied with the cooperation. Such is the fate of the underground bands
The group plays typical type of Swedish Death Metal, brutal, fast and with low growls which remind me of Legion from DEVIAN. The album consists mostly of short 1-2 minute tracks and most of them are composed according to the simple rule: opening riff, than vocal comes in and hell is ready to be unleashed. Fortunately, after several listenings it turns out that some of the songs are not so one-dimensional as it may seem. You may find some really ear-catching riffs here and there. Man-Made Misery with great riffs and a nice guitar solo is one of them, for instance. On the whole, it may be a bit boring to listen to so many tracks in a similar style, but the guys made an effort to implement something extra in order not to make everyone bored. The song called Broken is surely the unexpected turn in the cycle of constant Death Metal massacre. Everything slows down and the band serves us very gloomy piece of music in that one. Surprise! Youre Dead!, on the other hand, is a cover version of FAITH NO MORE song. Surprisingly, the track is a very faithful, but far more extreme version of the original. Whats more, it is probable that if somebody did not know the origin of the song, it could have been treated as it was composed by 21 LUCIFERS.
All in all, the album is worth recommendation to the maniacs who like simple and less complicated brutal music. 21 LUCIFERS did not invent anything outstanding with that album, but it surely wasnt their aim. The songs sound really massive, which is the most important factor in that genre. The length and intricacy do not matter as much as the feeling of having our ears crushed with the tempestuous riffs, and the band fulfills that task with satisfactory result. It is a pity that the guys had so many problems while issuing that album. Im certain that their next album will be at least ass good as that one, but unfortunately it looks as if it will take a while until we get it.
