New Album “Unspoken Words” In Stores May 19th, 2009
Montreal based Derelict has officially signed with Year of the Sun Records and Kerosene Media for the release of their upcoming new album, “Unspoken Words.” The album will surface in stores across Canada on May 19th, 2009. The group is currently streaming tracks from their forthcoming debut online at www.myspace.com/derelictmetal
“We're really excited about getting this album out on a national scale. We're really proud of 'Unspoken Words' and it's a great feeling to know that there is a label that believes in the music as much as we do,” says Derelict's Eric Burnet. “We've always had as our goal to combine far-ranging elements of metal and music in general, and we feel that with Unspoken Words we've gotten much better at doing that. We'll hit you with some brutal death metal, but infused with catchy melodies surrounded by progressive chaos and completely unexpected influences. I think our sound has diverse enough elements to appeal to fans of Gojira, Cryptopsy or even old school fans of Carcass. There's something here for every metal fan and that's something that's very important to us.
Derelict has become a powerhouse within the Montreal metal scene. The groups brutal and progressive elements has led to comparisons to Death and Strapping Young Lad and has allowed the band to tour across Canada on a pair of independent releases. Derelict's aural assault is aided by their solid live performance that has earned them opening slots for The Agonist, the Plasmarifle, Threat Signal and Ion Dissonance.
Derelict's national debut, “Unspoken Words”, was mixed and mastered by Chris Donaldson (Crytopsy, The Agonist) and has already started earning critical acclaim. EXCLAIM Magazine stated that the band “combines several realms of extreme music into a very tasty final result. The album shifts between violent attacks and schizophrenic musical changes to encompass a wide range of musical styles that can infect any listener.
