After a mere two years of existence, Canadian act AETERNAM has inked a deal with Metal Blade Records to release their first opus “Disciples of the Unseen.” AETERNAM plays a symphonic-heavy style of death metal that recalls fellow Metal Blader BEHEMOTH. Their Ancient-Near-East leanings also bring to mind NILE and MELECHESH.
The group is by no means a rip-off of these bands, though, channeling the melodic death metal of their fellow countrymen such as ARIS and KATAKLYSM. Disciples of the Unseen is rife with Mesopotamia/Egyptian scales and even the occasional ethnic interlude, as seen on tracks such as Iteru, which rhythmically resembles MERCYFUL FATEs The Mad Arab that is if King and his bunch were from the Middle East.
While AETERNAM doesnt reveal the skill of a MELECHESH or NILE, Disciples of the Unseen is a solid first try of a style of music not so often heard.
