SVARTSOT (Black Soot) is a band from Denmark that comes to claim a place in the recent spate of Viking Metal or Beer Viking Metal, as I would call it, and Napalm Records is the label in charge.
Formed in 2005, this is only their second album. A mixture of metal and Nordic folk music which will try to make us stand up and kick around scrounging imaginary weapons or simply bang our heads and drink a cold beer under the snow.
Because all these Danish guttural lyrics are primarily focused on women, beer and great battles, and are based, as usual, on Norse mythology and national folk tales. From Finland, Sweden, Norway and even from Denmark's semi-autonomous Faroe Islands we have noticed quite successful acts, so, the neighbors were not willing to be left behind.
In short, the different feature of this album and this band is the Danish language. The rest of the elements present in each of the songs differs little from what is already known. There are traditional instruments such as whistles, accordions, mandolins, choirs and a melodic-riff work.
But don't feel discouraged if you still want something in your collection between EINHERJER, KORPIKLAANI, TURISAS, ASMEGIN, FINNTROLL, MOONSORROW, MĹNEGARM, AMON AMARTH, etc.. The album “Mulmets Viser” goes on sale this March 26. And for those wishing to raise their Viking fists, these Danes will perform at the Wacken Open Air this year.
