The French label XIII Bis Records sent me the debut album of DIE ON MONDAY called “Black Cat”. Biography tells that the musicians earlier played in different bands but I do not know these bands. The mastering of album was made by Steve Rooke (earlier he worked with KILLING JOKE and IN FLAMES).
However the music did not make me larger impression on the beginning, probably for that reason , that I recently prefer more complex arrangements. And “Black Cat” rather presents simple melodies falling into ears easily with rough and dirty sound as well as with pretty sedate rhythms. Though some themes are even nice – pretty heavy stoner metal melodies (with lowered tuning guitars) – with stronger accents in refrain, with choruses, with soft darkness and nostalgia maybe even with psychedelic breath. In this moment I remembered the times when I very liked the bands of type NIRVANA, SOUNDGARDEN or QUEEN OF THE STONE AGE and I clearly hear influences of these bands here.
If I listen this album longer then I begin to like it more. Despite XXI century the men from DIE ON MONDAY created retro-climate – very classic-rock, even with metal moments, without the electronic insertions. Despite that the songs are pretty simple but the energy and emotional excitement emit from them. Moreover the men made the nice ballad at the end, such song in style of NIRVANA, or in type of southern rock The song nicely run down to somewhat mad song. Anyway this was very good idea. In total “Black Cat” portrays nice scorching melodies and pretty strong hits This is good material for concerts.
