I have received the promise and I got the second album of French avant-garde metaller. “Vacuum” – the previous release appeared year ago and now Vaerohn (very controversial artist) gives album “Grotesque”. Really it is the very grotesque album – from musical side and from graphic side. Some Stephen Rothwell has created every illustrations. And I desire to affirm that these paintings are really very intriguing, which possess specific (gloomy and grotesque) climate.
Generally saying – the music flowing from the album is well-kept in the same climate like predecessor. But “Grotesque” is more mature album, more well-thought-out and more rich in various ideas. Every of these French-language compositions features the elements of slowly-flowing Black Metal as well as of Symphony and of Classic Music (the passages of acoustic guitar and the piano arrangements in style of our the countryman – Frederic Chopin). However these different styles additionally are diversified by the blues-rock motifs, alternative-jazz inclinations as well as musical subjects like from cheery little town (sometimes the sounds of harmony appear). And therefore the many contrasts and surprises are here – and it characterizes avant-garde music. The rule is – there are no rules.
Someone would think, that this musical conglomerate is the chaotic connection of sounds. But during the listening of album I detected order and intentional connection of different styles. This bizarre musical consistency produces very dark-grotesque atmosphere full of mad and insane vocals (sometimes even very tearful and hysterical or psychotic)as well as full of the sharp guitar riffs and the solos, gloomy and melancholy orchestral-symphonic motifs (with moments of seriousness and pathos) as well as many different sounds which create avant-garde climate in decadent style.
It is the music for persons who do not fear the musical trips into depth of human madness. The fans of ELEND will like it
