This is the next release released under the sign of Australian label – Soundmass. This time it is album of Confederates from USA. Them third album. I don't know about the line-up from the previous albums but the four members worked during record this time. Markus Bersaglia and Dave Peters as well as Wes LeQuire and Jon Leonard. Supposedly at present the line-up underwent already change. So the album “DMG” is the effect of this co-operation. And the music from the album is strongly inspired by the spirit of South of the United States. This is expressed by the vocal accent and the characteristic musical patents like the low-tuned guitars, the special riffs with guitar squeaks and the average-slow paces.
The whole is pretty heavy and massive with the trace of guitar dirt and the piece of aggression. The many traces of Southern Rock and Stoner Metal were appear in the music of DEAD MOONS GREY and despite superiority of the average-slow rhythms this music is pretty dynamic and during accelerations it even pretty well stimulates. The use of the tacts of banjo, of the clean guitar chords and of the sounds of piano was nice addition and this yet more underlined “south climate”. Though those additions are minority among Metal heaviness.
The musicians, and maybe the label qualified the music of DEAD MOONS GREY as Appalachian Metal. I think this is rather the trick of marketing because some people willingly would qualify this music as Southern Metal or Groove Metal. Especially that you will listen here similarity to BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, HELLYEAH or a bit to DANZIG and to METALLICA (from “Load” and “Reload”). And the last track is strongly inspired by PANTERA.
