Country: Belgium
Belgian trio made debut album, which the music is defined as Post Grunge Rock by the musicians. I should believe in the musicians' words, because Grunge is not my favourite musical species. Naturally, I listened bands from Seattle occasionally and I liked some songs of some bands very much… SOUNDGARDEN, PEARL JAM, NIRVANA and yet ALICE IN CHAINS… I remember a bit… From mentioned bands, NIRVANA has possessed me strongly…
Now, listening “Dead Memories” I think that SHELLCASE plays pleasant music with energy, claw, dynamics and with melody closed in one pill. In the compositions appear sharper and stronger productions with very rhythmical tacts, interlaced calmer subjects (often acoustic), very melodious with emotional influences and balladic accents. I can say boldly that the musical capsule is dichromatic. One half is black and it represents darkness as well as heaviness. And the second half is blue and it represents calmness as well as melancholy. Though SHELLCASE is from Belgium but it seems like their musical inspirations are in American Grunge scene. But I also feel the influences of Post Rock here, mainly in serves of guitars, these very climatic. It causes that music is more spatial and also easily falling in ear.
However emotional intensity of the music is pretty sedate. We will not find here radical changes of emotionality, nor extreme impulses. But thanks this the music is more coherent.
