Some time ago, I got cooperation with the Italian label Red Cat Promotion and the review of “Breathless” is the result of this… This is strange the band's name! The music will also be strange. But before I go on to describe this then I will mention a few details about the band … SUSHI RAIN was formed in 2002 in Italy. The name is not associated with Italian macaroni, but rather with Japan. However I noticed a gastronomy accents in the name of the band, in the logo and in the cover-art for their first album – “Breathless,” which appeared after the demo “Loading”.
The music of “Breathless” presents a very niche type of Metal. Because how many of you did listen bands playing Funk Metal? Many of you probably do not even know that such Metal genre exist, hahaha … To be honest, the album is for me a very pleasant surprise, because I do not remember how long ago I heard something like that… I remember the eccentric LIVING COLOUR and FAITH NO MORE and just SUSHI RAIN plays the music inspired by the music of these bands… Among other bands, because they yet mention EXTREME, TOTO, QUEEN and BUMBLEFOOT.
In any case, “Breathless” is a very crazy music with typical complex syncopated rhythms, which give a very various paces of the compositions – thanks to the guitar riffs, the virtuosic licks, the jazz inclinations, the Hammond's keyboard , the Hard Rock patents and the South American (Latino) accents and the melodies of saxophone . The vocals also are quite complex, because they range from the normal singing through the ecstasy of highly vocals and the chorus until the Rap declamation.
The songs are very spontaneous, lively and totally devoid of negative emotions and they have very positive vibrations . The songs are suitable for a dance and sometimes have the ballad atmosphere… SUSHI RAIN has created the very rich fan of different sounds – from Latino Disco's rhythms till the dynamic Metal themes. Despite these differences, the album is consistent, giving an injection of positive energy.
To be honest I say that album has 10 compositions… The last track is funny masterly instrumental song with influences od Country.
