Lately I noticed that the times of metal are coming back in a really good shape: lots of new bands are being formed which are growing like mushrooms after the rain, there's a lot of reunions and on top of that we're having good albums that are keep popping out, very good ones actually. Speaking of new bands and good albums I happened to stumble upon one recently. Zawicizuz (m.in. Bleed The Son, ex-Absu) and The Mad Arab (Bleed The Son) in 2010 decided to create a brand new project under the name The Black Moriah that later on they reinforced with a member under a nickname Evintis (Verkommen). It's a very interesting patent these days where it seems everything possible was already played and every theme was applied to every type of music but they still managed to come out with something new. A black metal with thrash spirit placed in the realm of infamous wild west where bandits are robbing stage-coaches, breaking the law is everyday's reality and manufacturing of gallows can't catch up to a rate in which they're being utilized. Welcome to the dark side of the cowboy world presented by The Black Moriah in their debut album Casket Prospects.
Fast thrashy riffs and drums, black metal slow downs, chords and vocals. This is just the simplest description of what you're gonna find on this album. Black metal fans of Absu and old school thrash will definitely find something they like in each of the songs. The album is easy to listen to and most of the titles will stay in your head: headbang guaranteed. All in all there's no bad track at all. Album starts out with slightly dark intro leading us into the wild west where galopping sounds are with us till the end of it. If you're fans of metal and classic wild west movies this is something you don't want to just walk by. If anyone is familiar with a definition of black'n'roll will also find here some cool riffs in that stytle. I can't also forget about few very nice solos that sound totally wild westish that are nicely matching the progress and structure of tracks.
Generally speaking it's probably my best and most succesfull discovery within that genre since the past two years. I'm giving them a huge credit for being brave about putting this genre into the wild west realm which is something new and cool, something that attracts more than some so so sounding bands that are not necesserily creative bands which there's tons of them these days. As I mentioned earlier Casket Prospects will be like a diamond in a CD collection of every fan of western movies, black and thrash metal, and the most important predecessors of those genres.
